Loudmouth vs inflated ego : TOP DRAWER
September 13, 2020
Allow me confess at the outset. I do love watching movies, but it’s just coincidence that I haven’t watched any of the movies of Kangana Ranaut so far. I know she is a successful actor. I understand she is good at her craft – acting and that she believes she is better than many of the directors. And I also know for sure that she doesn’t hold back, speaks her mind out and believes in calling a spade a spade. One probable reason that I haven’t watched any of her movies could be my aversion for loudmouths. Since Kangana and controversy are two-sides of the coin, I never felt compelled to watch her perform. I could be wrong, but I feel she loves and feeds on controversies to remain in the news. Falling in love with the opposite sex is normal. Falling in love with an elderly person or dating married men too are considered normal in the modern world. Whether it was Aditya Pancholi, Ajay Devgun or Hrithik Roshan, her crush for them cannot be termed as surprising. Falling in love or dating someone is a matter of personal choice, but making these affairs public? Well, Kangana has been doing exactly this to remain in the news and has used these controversies as steppingstones in her career. Kangana had no locus standee to speak on the Sushant Singh Rajput case, other than talking about the much-debated nepotism existing in the Hindi film industry. Her controversial statement comparing Mumbai with Pakistan Occupied Kashmir was simply laughable that came from the loudmouth she possesses. But no, someone sitting in Matoshree who has a big inflated ego did not laugh at it at all. Instead, he thought of teaching her a lesson or two by unleashing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC and Mumbai Police after her. That someone is none other than the Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. If he has inherited the big ego from his legendary father Balasaheb Thackeray, his lust for power is also legendary. He joined hands with the same elements his father fought against all his life to become the king since he had doubts about his ability to function as a king-maker that his father preferred to be. The BMC controlled by Thackeray’s Shiv Sena was sounded out and the authorities there were only too willing to bend backwards and oblige the boss. In unusual haste, a 24-hour notice was served about what they claimed as illegal extensions at Kangana’s Pali Hill office cum residence while the owner of the building was out of town. The very next day the bulldozers were at work, defacing what appeared from photographs as a beautiful and well-designed building. Allegations that the demolished portions were illegal and Kangana’s claim that she has all requisite permissions would now be debated in the court of law along with the fact if the BMC purposely defied the stay order of the Bombay High Court on demolition. The Mumbai Police, which found no reason to file even a simple FIR in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, did not try to probe the drug angle associated with it, are now probing an allegation that Kangana has been a drug user. Once famed Mumbai Police, often compared to the Scotland Yard, have failed to distinguish themselves the manner they handled the Sushant Singh Rajput case and the way they tried to obstruct investigations from their Bihar counterparts. BMC with its pathetic track record of handling the Corona virus pandemic outbreak in the metropolis was quick enough to quarantine the Bihar Police team when it reached Mumbai to carry out investigations. Shiv Sena controlled BMC’s acts and Mumbai Police’s behaviours have raised questions over political connections – Mumbai Police trying to hide something in Sushant Singh Rajput case and BMC first quarantining a senior IPS officer from Bihar and now demolishing parts of Kangana Ranaut’s office cum residence with unfathomable alacrity. The entire controversy does smack of a design. The simple question is, who is that politician whose identity is being hidden but is allegedly linked with Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput cases? Is that politician someone very close to Uddhav Thackeray or a resident of Matoshree? The BMC action and attempts to silence a known loudmouth are definite indications that both BMC and Mumbai Police are receiving instructions from some political masters. That Kangana Ranaut has been targeting Uddhav Thackeray at the BJP’s behest is also being alleged. It is also being suggested that BJP wants to prop her up against Priyanka Gandhi wherever Priyanka decides to contest election from in 2024 general elections. The central government’s decision to grant her Y-Plus security cover may also suggest that she is a mere pawn in the ongoing political fight between erstwhile and now estranged allies BJP and Shiv Sena. Uddhav Thackeray’s immaturity as a politician stand exposed. It was always a known fact and that is why his estranged cousin Raj Thackeray was once seen as a natural political heir to Bal Thackeray. Uddhav Thackeray continues to live under the impression that like his father, his word is a command and that he draws the same awe, fear and respect that was associated with his father. What he probably does not realise is that he is not a natural leader like his father and respect is earned, not demanded. The Pali Hill demolition by BMC, if it was done to divert focus from Sushant Singh Rajput case, maybe partially successful but executed with political immaturity since now Uddhav Thackeray’s conduct and character are being questioned. Time, court and course of all ongoing investigations will decide if the demolition was illegal or the demolished portions were illegal, and also if there is any political connection in Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput alleged suicide cases. But one thing established beyond doubt is that Uddhav Thackeray has made a real-life heroine out of Kangana Ranaut and may have inadvertently launched her political career. I won’t be surprised if she is invited by the BJP to campaign during the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. It will also be interesting to see if investigations into the Sushant Singh Rajput case survive beyond Bihar polls. I may not be a Kangana Ranaut fan, but I admire her guts to challenge a tiger that Shiv Sena calls itself. Time will tell if this tiger has become toothless since both Shiv Sena and its supreme leader Uddhav Thackeray. Until then, Uddhav Thackeray will have to suffer Kangana Ranaut and the headache she is going to give the tiger.
